In addition to the high degree of stenosis, other characteristics of carotid plaque are associated with an increased risk of ischemic strokes that can also be caused by non-hemodynamic plaques.
In the past many of these plaque features could only be studied on surgical segments. Currently, ultrasound allows to evaluate, in vivo, some of these peculiarities.
In this lesson the US characteristics of carotid plaque with greater prevalence in symptomatic patients than asymptomatic ones are reported.
